PS2
The network adaptor is limited to 32-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA), meaning
that only the first 137 GB is usable if the drive is 160 GB, 200 GB or bigger.
If you want the biggest and most compatible, I recommend to get a 120 GB drive.
Note: It's now possible use an updated ATAD driver that supports the 48-bit command
set. There are patches for HDLoader, DMS Format Tool and DMS Dump Tool (more info at
ps2-scene.org). All new programs
released should have the new ATAD driver compiled in by now.
Before you install the hard drive make sure the jumper settings on the back of
the drive is set to MASTER. You will find the correct setting either on top of
the drive or in the manual.
The official Sony HDD is acually a Maxtor 2F040L0, 40 GB, UDMA/133, 5400 RPM, 2
MB cache, 12.0 ms avg. seek time, IDE interface, and 3.5-inch form factor. The
drive is also used in some TiVo units.
